Taslima Nasrin
Bengali writer, radical feminist and secular humanist. .
Taslima Nasrin was born in 1962 in a Muslim family but was brought up in a secular environment. Her father Dr Md. Rajab Ali was a well known physician, had modern scientific outlook and rational logical mind. Taslima's mother, Edul Wara, was an extra ordinary woman for her kindness and honesty. Taslima has two brothers and one younger sister. After high school in 1976 (SSC) and pre-university course (HSC) in 1978, she studied medicine at the Mymensingh Medical College and graduated in 1984 securing MBBS degree. She worked as a gynecologist and later as an anesthesiologist in different public hospitals. In 1986 her first poetry book was published. In 1989 she started writing columns on women's rights in the newspapers and magazines and became a very popular columnist. In 1990 Islamic fundamentalists started campaign against her and broke the newspaper offices and filed cases against her because she criticized Islamic oppression on women. In 1993 she was forced to quit her job, as the Government confiscated her passport and asked her to stop writings. In that time Islamic fundamentalists issued fatwa against her and set a price on her head. She awarded with many prizes such as the Kurt Tucholsky prize from the Swedish PEN, Sakharov prize for freedom, Human Rights award From French Government, Ananda literary award from West Bengal, India etc. Her all part of autobiography has banned. She lived many years of her life in foreign country such as USA, India, Sweden, and France as a political refugee.
তসলিমা নাসরিন বাংলাদেশের আলোচিত ও বিতর্কিত নারীবাদী সাহিত্যিক।তার জন্ম ১৯৬২ সালে ময়মনসিংহে। তার বাবা রজব আলী পেশায় ডাক্তার ছিলেন এবং মা ইদুল আরা ছিলেন গৃহিনী।তিনি ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজে অধ্যয়ন করেন এবং সেখান থেকে ১৯৮৬ সালে এমবিবিএস ডিগ্রি লাভ করেন। এর পর তিনি সরকারী হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসক হিসাবে ১৯৯৪ সাল পর্যন্ত কর্মরত ছিলেন।কিন্তু বিতর্কিত লেখার জন্য সরকার তাকে তার চাকরী থেকে অপসারিত করে। কিছু ধর্মভিত্তিক সংগঠনের নেতৃত্ব তাঁর মৃত্যুদণ্ড ঘোষণা করে। কুরআন ও হাদিসের তার ব্যক্তিগত ব্যাখ্যা বাংলাদেশের গোড়া মুসলমান জনগণের মনে অসন্তোষের সৃষ্টি করে।তাঁর রচনা সমূহের মধ্যে লজ্জা, আমার মেয়েবেলা, দ্বিখণ্ডিত, গোল্লাছুট, ইত্যাদি উল্লেখযোগ্য।তিনি নানা পুরষ্কারে ভূষিত। তিনি বর্তমানে রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়ে আমেরিকাতে আছেন।
