Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay
Popular Indian Bangali novelist.
Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay was born on 2 November 1935 in Mymensing district of Bangladesh (former east Bengal). His father was a railway service holder. So his family had to move many places to accompany him. Shirshendu spent his childhood in Bihar and many places in Bengal and Assam. He studied in Victoria College, Calcutta . He earned his Masters degree o n Bengali from Calcutta University . Shirshendu started his career as a school teacher. Right now, he is on the staff of the Ananda Bazar Patrika at Calcutta. Spiritually, he is heavily influenced by the Hindu sub-sect of Anukul Thakur. His first novel Ghunpoka was published in the annual Puja edition of Desh. He has awarded many times for his contributions to bangla literature . For Manabjamin he received the Indian Sahitya Akademi award in 1988. He is also the double winner of the Ananda Puraskar ( in 1973, and again in 1990 ). He is one of the most popular Bangali writers of present-day.
শীর্ষেন্দু মুখোপাধ্যায় ১৯৩৫ সালের ২রা নভেম্বর,বাংলাদেশের ময়মনসিংহে জন্ম গ্রহন করেন। তার পিতার রেলওয়ের চাকরির সুবাদে তার ছেলেবেলা কেটেছে বিহার, পশ্চিমবঙ্গ ও অসমের বিভন্ন অংশে। শীর্ষেন্দু কলকাতার ভিক্টোরিয়া কলেজ হতে প্রবেশিকা ও কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় হতে বাংলায় মাস্টার্স ডিগ্রী লাভ করেন। শীর্ষেন্দু চাকরি জীবন শুরু করেন স্কুল শিক্ষক হিসাবে। বর্তমানে তিনি আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকার সাথে জড়িত। এছাড়া তিনি দেশ পত্রিকাতেও লিখে থাকেন।তার প্রথম প্রকাশিত উপন্যাস ঘুনপোকা যা শারদীয় দেশ পত্রিকায় প্রকাশিত হয়। শিশুসাহিত্যে অবদানের জন্য তিনি ১৯৮৫ সালে বিদ্যাসাগর পুরস্কার পান। আনন্দ পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন দুই বার ১৯৭৩ ও ১৯৯০ সালে। মানবজমিন উপন্যাসের জন্য ১৯৮৮ সালে সাহিত্য আকাদেমি পুরস্কার পান। তিনি সমসাময়িক বাংলা উপন্যাসিকদের মধ্যে অন্যতম।
